Built for the way text games actually play

Colour the way the server sent it

16 colour, 256 colour and 24-bit RGB ANSI, rendered properly. Scrolling stays smooth when the screen fills with combat spam.

Encodings UTF-8 · ASCII · ISO-8859-1
Telnet TTYPE · NAWS · MCCP2 · MSSP · ZMP

Make it yours

More than 15 themes and 20 monospace fonts, set globally or per world. Dynamic Type scales the lot.

Text-to-speech · local echo · command history

MUDBasher settings, showing theme, control and keyboard shortcut options.

Automation that earns its keep

Triggers match plain text, wildcards or full regular expressions, then answer with a command, a highlight, a sound or a notification. Aliases shorten long command chains, gags drop the noise, tickers repeat on a timer.

Captures feed back into the response with %1. Read the automation guide.

The trigger editor, showing a regular expression that matches arrivals and responds with a wave and a greeting.

Controls made for thumbs

A radial pad puts up to eight commands under your thumb for movement and combat. Park it left, park it right, or turn it off. On iPad, drive the whole thing from a keyboard.

Usable with VoiceOver

Labelled throughout for screen reader users, with Dynamic Type across the interface and Reduce Motion honoured. Text-to-speech reads incoming output aloud.

As many worlds as you keep

Save any host and port, connect to four at once, and give each world its own theme, font and automation rules. Auto-login credentials sit in the iOS Keychain, and SSL/TLS is used wherever the server offers it.

Stays connected in the background. How that works.

The world picker in MUDBasher, listing saved MUDs with their hostnames and ports.

The app collects nothing.

No analytics, no advertising SDKs, no third-party servers. MUDBasher talks to the MUDs you point it at and to nothing else.

Stays on device

Worlds, notes, triggers and session logs are stored locally. There is no account and no cloud sync.

Passwords in the Keychain

Auto-login credentials go to the iOS Keychain, never to us, and never into an iCloud backup.

This website, honestly

The app tracks nothing. This site does use Google Analytics. Read the policy.

A classic returns, reimagined

The story of MUDBasher is the story of MUDRammer, an app built in 2012 and named after a friend's ridiculous character name, which brought a lot of people a lot of joy for years.

When it could no longer keep up with modern iOS, the choice was to let it fade or start again. It was rebuilt from the ground up. Same heart, new soul, and ready for the next decade of adventures.

Adventure awaits.
